I love learning new things almost more than I love fabric. Handmade goods and traditional crafts are disappearing as artitsts and crafts people often embrace new techniques. Documenting traditional building techniques and handicrafts is an important part of preserving traditional cultural heritage, even in America. It is important to promote the link between both the new and old (methods, participants) through preservation strategies, documentation, databases, and education. Preservation is especially important with textiles just like it is with oral histories, as they rarely last with use and age. So, while preserving and learning about our past, I will continue to quilt and sew into the future.
